But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God. Then the officials went together to Daniel’s house and found him praying and asking for God’s help. So they went straight to the king and reminded him about his law. “Did you not sign a law that for the next thirty days any person who prays to anyone, divine or human—except to you, Your Majesty—will be thrown into the den of lions?” Yes,” the king replied, “that decision stands; it is an official law of the Medes and Persians that cannot be revoked.” Daniel 6:6-12
Like Daniel, I will run into God's presence, remain unbendable in prayer, and be faithful to Jesus Christ, even if my obedience brings persecution. I realize, Lord God, that the day is coming when believing in Jesus Christ, praying to You, or reading the Bible could be outlawed in the United States. I pray for Christians who are facing intense persecution today in countries such as North Korea, Somalia, Yemen, Sudan, Eritrea, Syria, and Nigeria, to name only a few. Please honor their courage, protect their families, and strengthen their faith as they continue to trust in Your faithfulness. Thank You, Holy Spirit, for reminding me that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither my fears for today nor my worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate me from God’s love. No power in the sky above or human power in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate me from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord! My salvation and hope of eternal life are found in Jesus, my Savior. Hallelujah!
