Anointed - 2 Corinthians 1:21

Bible verses about Anointing

Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 NIV

Prayer of Anointing

God's anointing and seal of ownership is upon me. Blessed Father. I'm grateful that You have given me Your Holy Ghost to be Your ambassador of love and grace in my daily world. Anoint me this day with the power of Your Spirit and direct my steps to someone in the marketplace who You want to rescue from eternal death and bring into everlasting life. In the precious name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

What is the meaning of anointing in the Bible?

The word anointing means: "To smear or rub with oil or perfume for a specific purpose."

The word anoint, comes from a practice implemented by shepherds to help prevent diseases for their flocks. Sheep herds and livestock would often get insects like ticks, bot flies, lice, fleas, etc., that would burrow themselves in their heads, ears, and bodies. These insects would cause infections and gradually kill the sheep. To help protect the sheep, shepherds would pour a special oil upon the sheep's head, ears, and body to protect them from harmful insects. The anointing oil creates a protective shield that makes it nearly impossible for the insects to stick onto their bodies. In like fashion, God anoints you with His Holy Spirit, who places a seal of ownership upon your life and covers you from the sinful insects of this world that seek to harm or destroy you.
