My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. He Himself is the sacrifice that atones for our sins—and not only our sins but the sins of all the world. 1 John 2:1-2 NLT
POEM: "THE ADVOCATE" by Josie James.
Condemned to die,
Devoid of defenses
Having no alibi.
Nothing left to appeal.
The sentence was passed
Signed, stamped, and sealed.
My head hung in shame,
With nothing to argue
And no one to blame.
My errors, my blights
Could not be omitted
Even by things I'd done right.
To make one final plea
To beg for the Court
To have mercy on me.
His position was firm.
My life was required
For the law that I'd spurned.
Sealing my fate,
When a soft voice behind me,
Simply said, "Wait."
And to my surprise,
The warmest compassion
Danced in His eyes.
From whence the voice had come
And came face to face
With the Judge's only Son.
That this wretch must die.
But I am now come
That she might have life.
Her blood should be shed.
So I ask that You
Take my life instead."
What I had to say,
But I looked at His Son
And whispered, "I have nothing to pay."
And said, "My gift is free.
All that I ask
Is that you believe in Me."
With the greatest of ease.
I thought just for one moment
Then dropped to my knees.
"I believe," I cried.
The Son then walked over
To stand by my side.
Though she's come short of Your glory,
This sentence of death
Must not end her story."
At His Son, then at me,
And said, "You should die,
But I'll show you mercy."
Knowing not what to say,
As guards took the Son
And led Him away.
To put up a fight,
But He said, "It is finished,"
Then stepped out of sight.
"A brand new creation,
A peculiar person
From a holy nation.
So, go. You are free.
My Son's sacrifice
Has given you liberty.":
Praise & Prayer
I praise You, Lord Jesus, for being my Advocate who came to my aid and pleaded my case before our Heavenly Father, the Righteous Judge. As a guilty sinner, I bow in reverence to thank You for sacrificing Your life to atone for my forgiveness and salvation. With heartfelt gratitude, I go forth today free from sin and merited condemnation because of Your great love. Holy Spirit, please guide someone across my path today who is ruled by self-condemnation and defeated by demonic accusations because of their transgressions. Lord Jesus, please come to their salvation as I share this wonderful truth about Your Advocacy for sinners like me. I ask this in Your holy and mighty name. Hosanna!
